Special Interest Groups (SIGs) Allow Members to Share Common Concerns

Among valuable NAWBO member benefits is the opportunity to join or create a SIG. SIGs allow interested members to discuss issues linked to a specific topic. Chicago Area NAWBO is looking for ideas for new SIGs to add to the three active SIGs it currently has:

  • Windy City Investors. Have you always wanted to invest in the stock market but didn’t know where to start? We are a group of Women Business Owners who meet every other month and invest in the stock market.  The investment group is great if you’ve always wanted to learn more about the stock market, try your hand at investing and network with other women. Our goal is to empower our club members to invest in their future.  For more information, please call Vickie Rock @ 312-443-1025  or Laura Shulman @ 847-278-5501 or just show up! The next meeting is Monday August 6th @ 6:00 PM at Panera Bread -622 East Golf Road (Just West of Plum Grove Rd)-Schaumburg.
  • The Boardroom Exchange. A group of members who have been in business at least 7 years and have overhead in the form of office space or employees. Contact Judi Schindler, Schindler Communications, at (312) 464-9660 (jschindler@schindlercommunications.com) for more information.
  • Under 35 Roundtable. This SIG addresses issues and creates a support network for NAWBO members under the age of 35. Contact Michele Conti, Ameriprise at 773.628.2200 or michele.l.conti@ampf.com
  • ALA Roundtable. The ALA Roundtable is geared toward NAWBO members who are African American, Latina and Asian American. The next meeting of ALA will be held on July, 10, 2007 at W. A. George Insurance Agency, 200 S. Michigan Avenue, Suite 1210. The time will be 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm. The July topic will be "Do It Yourself Marketing Materials for Entrepreneurs". We are going to discuss some ways to produce marketing material from home PC's, etc. Contact Mercedes George at (312) 225-8456 or mercedes@wag-insurance.com or Bonnie Mahaffey at bonnie@polishedprofessionalimage.com.
  • Creatives SIG The Creatives SIG seeks to support business and professional women in both creative and traditional fields. Creative innovation is a major driver of growth. Many of the prestigious business colleges are adding design courses to their curriculum in order to teach the dynamics of innovation. Increasingly the new core competency is creativity. Many of our businesses are in creative fields and many of us approach our traditional business model with creative flair.
