Leadership
We must remember that one determined person can make a significant difference, and that a small group of determined people can change the course of history. - Sonia Johnson
The Process
The process for nominations and elections to leadership positions for Chicago Area NAWBO is set forth in the Chapter Bylaws, and is summarized below.
NAWBO Leadership Call For Nominations
In January of each year a nomination form is mailed to all active members. Traditionally it has been included in the January Bulletin. Typically leaders submit nominations on their own behalf. Any member may nominate another member; such nominees, however, must consent in writing prior to consideration by the Nominating Committee.
Everyone wishing to hold a leadership position, including current board directors and committee chairs, must complete and submit this form.

Nominating Committee is Constituted
The Nominating Committee shall be comprised of the President, President-elect, and four Active Members who shall not be current members of the Board of Directors.
- The President with the advice and consent of the Board of Directors shall appoint the members of the Nominating Committee.
- The President shall call the first meeting of the Nominating Committee.
- At this first meeting, the Chair of the Nominating Committee shall be chosen by a majority vote of the Nominating Committee members present at the meeting.
No one serving on the Nominating Committee may be nominated for any elected position by that Committee.
Interviews Are Conducted By The Nominating Committee
The Nominating Committee interviews each person who has consented to nomination either personally or by telephone.
Candidates Slated
The Nominating Committee shall slate one candidate for each vacant office.
Slate Distributed To Membership For Vote
The slate shall be submitted to the membership in May of the Chapter year. Traditionally the slate has been distributed in the May Bulletin.
The Voting Process
Members shall have 30 days from the receipt of the slate to respond to the slate. If 25% of the voting members object to a candidate, an alternate candidate will be presented by the Nominating Committee.
The previous year's President-Elect shall automatically become President of the chapter without further vote.
Selection of the Committee Chairs
The incoming President is charged with selection and appointment of Committee Chairs.
Announcement Of New Leadership Team
The Announcement of the results of the election of the Board of Directors and the selected Committee Chairs is distributed in June of the respective year.
Leadership Team Installation Dinner
The Leadership Team is installed at a formal dinner meeting of the organization.
